Orphan Scholarship Fund

There are nearly 150 million orphans in the world today. This number can be paralyzing, leaving us feeling uncertain about how to respond. And yet, God says in the scriptures that he wants his followers to, “Learn to do good; seek justice, reprove the ruthless, DEFEND THE ORPHAN, plead for the widow” Isaiah 1:17. To impact the life of one fatherless child, can have immeasurable impact. The Orphan Scholarship Fund seeks to achieve this by equipping college students to host events and activities to raise funds toward a college scholarship fund that enables orphaned students around the world to receive a college education. We have need for City Cru/SF State students to help lead this initiative. If you have the desire to make a difference in the life of an orphaned student by providing the same opportunity to go to school that you have, contact Matt (matt.stpierre@uscm.org).

What is the Orphan Scholarship Fund?

We are a movement of college students at SF State – a collaboration of clubs, fraternities, and sororities – making a difference in the lives of orphans by pioneering a scholarship fund that seeks to send orphans around the globe to college in their home country.

About Orphans
There are over 143 million orphans in the world today. Among the marginalized of society, they are one of the most vulnerable groups. With no one to look out for and care for them, many end up on their own at a young age – making them highly susceptible to crime, drugs, prostitution, and human trafficking, or destined to a life of extreme poverty.

Why College?
Without guardians to meet even basic needs, most orphans are lucky to finish primary schooling, much less, have the opportunity to go to college. By providing the means to make this dream a reality, these orphaned students can reach their full potential. Not only are their own lives changed, but also their communities are impacted as they return from school equipped to be future leaders.
